"Clever" People Walking By
- Cleverly Street -
poeple watcher : For
Sheung Wan is a place full of different cultures. Why I say that? It is because there are many foreigners living there. Let's look closer to one of the beautiful streets in Sheung Wan - cleverly street.
When I first saw the street name, I thought it was something related to clever people. However, Cleverly Street is actually named for memorizing the surveyor general Charles Saint George Cleverly. It is a street near the Western Market Tram Terminus. Although it is not a very long street, there are a lot of special people with different backgrounds.
You may not know that there are many Indians hanging around the street. Perhaps it is because of their occupation. Many of them work as a driver to deliver food to different parts of Hong Kong. When I ask them what company do they work for, they answer me their base is actually in one of the buildings in Cleverly Street. Don't judge a book by its cover, those Indian drivers are all very nice. However, one of their leisure activities you may feel bad, that is they sometimes smoke together on the street. It makes the atmosphere a little bit "naughty".
Besides, we all know that dried seafood is one of the specialties in Sheung Wan. People walking by these shops are usually the elderly. They love to chat with the shopkeepers and order some dried seafood like the salted fish. Other than those elderly, many middle-aged women will come to buy dried seafood. They usually speak a lot because they want to bargain the price. What's more, they are very conscious about the quality of the food which sometimes make the shopkeeper feel annoyed.
